Want to find an online course for extra income? There are many out there that teach how to create a semi-passive income online many offer an affiliate program like the Jonathan Montoya affiliate program.
I have purchased a few myself and so far, I think they all are effective if you put what you learn into action. Some are better than others and there are some things to look out for.
I’ll share my experience with these types of online courses so that you can choose the top course for yourself.

How to Choose an Online Course for Extra Income
Before you choose an online course to invest in, it is important to consider several factors. Many courses cost hundreds and sometimes thousands to purchase.
You want to make sure you are making a wise investment. I’ve been burned on online courses in the past by spending money and realizing after the fact that it wasn’t worth it for me.
Digital courses don’t always offer a refund because they are digital. Or the product owner may have stipulations before you can request a refund.
That is why I want to share what to look out for and what to consider before you invest your money into any online course.
Pick a Course That is in the Make Money Online Niche
Your goal is to make extra income and one of the top niches for that is the make-money-online niche.
There is hardly a person in the world who isn’t open to making extra money and there are people willing to pay to learn how to do it online.
That is why I like online courses in the make money online niche. These courses are designed to help students to start creating a semi-passive income online.
A good course will teach you exactly what actions to take and help you avoid some of the common mistakes that are made by beginners.
I recommend choosing a course that also has an affiliate program. You can recommend it and not only be able to earn back what you paid for it, but possibly make a steady income online with it too.
Research the Product Creator
Before I buy any online course, I seek out the product creator. Are they on social media such as Instagram or Facebook? Do they have a YouTube channel?
If so, begin watching their content. Are they posting often? What are they teaching? This allows you to discover if the creator teaches what you desire to learn.
I also like to search for product reviews. A lot of them will be biased because they are written by affiliates.
However, you may find some that offer a good list of pros and cons.
Reach Out to the Product Creator
Another tip is to reach out to the product creator. Ask a basic question and see what type of response you get.
Some product creators have assistants who handle their messaging. There are some that do reply themselves.
I know I’ve received legitimate replies from both Zach Crawford and Jonathan Montoya when I’ve pinged them on Instagram.
Are There Student Success Stories?
Most product creators will have student testimonials and success stories. This is another way to gauge whether or not to invest in their course.

Becoming an Affiliate of the Course
No matter what course you choose, you can take what you learn and apply it to any niche that you want.
If you don’t know what niche to be in or have no preference, the make-money online niche is a good one to be in.
Choosing a course that has an affiliate program is even better because you have immediate access to a digital product that you can begin recommending immediately.
Most online courses offer a really nice commission rate. The affiliate programs I’m a part of offer between 40% and 50% commissions.
I’ve been able to make anywhere from $800 to $1,000 for every sale that I refer.
Focus On Traffic Generation
You’ll learn how to generate traffic within the course that you choose. Traffic generation requires consistent effort.
No matter if you blog or create Instagram reels, you’ll need to do it regularly. Without traffic, it’s impossible to make sales.
Post content a few times per week if possible. Make it a part of your routine. The more you post, the better you become at creating content.
Use other content creators for inspiration. Don’t copy exactly what they post. Put your own spin on the content that inspires you.
Also, utilize AI for ideas and for generating content. AI can help speed up content creation. I use ChatGPT all of the time for my social media posts. You’ll want to learn how to use prompts to get the best results.
Send Traffic to Your Sales Funnel
You’ll likely learn how to set up your sales funnel from any make-money online course that you buy.
A sales funnel is essential for any online business. The purpose of a funnel is to introduce your visitors to the product you’re promoting as well as building your email list.
I highly recommend sending all traffic to your sales funnel versus directly to an affiliate link.
A majority of your visitors will not buy right away so it’s best to capture their email address and marketing to them via email marketing.
That is the key to building a successful long-term online business.
Focus On Building an Email List
The path to long-term success is focusing on building an email list. Your email list is your business.
Relying on followers on social media platforms is a mistake. There have been so many instances where someone’s account has been closed on Instagram, TikTok, or another platform.
Overnight, a creator can lose their livelihood if their only audience lives on social media.
When you have an email list, you have an audience in which you have more control over.
As long as you’re not spamming your subscribers (which you should never), you have far less worry about losing them.
I always funnel any traffic I generate into my email list by directing visitors to my sales funnel.
Most sales funnel software includes an email marketing feature. You always have the option to use a separate email marketing software.
Some that I have used in the past and one of them I currently use include:
- GetResponse
- AWeber
- ConvertKit
In Summary
If your goal is to make extra income online, one of the best ways to do so is by learning from someone who is already doing it.
Many of the top affiliate marketers have an online course. These courses can help speed up the learning process.
I do recommend doing your research before investing in a course. Be sure that the course creator is accessible and active online.
Reach out and ask questions if you have them. Look for student testimonials and success stories.
Check out user reviews but be aware that many of them may be biased. Search for the pros and cons on user reviews.
I have purchased both excellent online courses as well as subpar ones. You really don’t know until you buy.
Rest assured that if you do your research, the chances of buying a good course will be high.
