I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for some time and for a long time, I was hesitant to get help. Whether it was with an online course or an online business coach, I thought I could manage to learn everything on my own. All it resulted in was a lot of wasted time with very little results. So, do you need a mentor for affiliate marketing? You don’t, but having one can speed up the time it takes to begin getting results.

Hi there! I’m Eartha and I invested in an affiliate marketing online business coach. You can read more about my affiliate marketing mentor here: Is Zach Crawford Legit? In this post, I will share why an affiliate marketing mentor is beneficial as well as what to do if you do not want to invest in a mentor.
What I can say is that it wasn’t until I began investing in myself that I began to get results with affiliate marketing. Today, I do not hesitate to buy an online course if it is on a topic that I need to improve on. A good mentor can provide the help and guidance needed to begin making a steady income online.

Do You Need a Mentor for Affiliate Marketing as a Beginner Affiliate?
Starting as a beginner affiliate marketer can come with all types of challenges. There are new terms to learn, business models to study, various affiliate products to choose from, and affiliate programs to sign up for.
Knowing this, it makes sense to get all of the support that you can get. I wasted so many years spinning my wheels as a beginner affiliate marketer. Rather than seek out help in an online course or a mentor, I tried to find answers myself. There is nothing wrong with being resourceful, but there comes a time when you may need help from an expert.
It is no different than investing in a college education to help level up your career. Investing in an affiliate marketing course and online business coach can help level up your online income.
While you don’t necessarily need a mentor for affiliate marketing, affiliate marketing mentoring is something to consider as you go along your journey. There are many of them to choose from so if you are considering it, take the time to research your options.

The Benefits of an Affiliate Marketing Mentorship Program
There are many benefits to being in an affiliate marketing mentorship program. I didn’t realize just how beneficial it is until I joined one. The biggest benefit of all is having access to the online business coach of the program.
Here are some of the benefits that I like most:
Having Mentorship From a Successful Business Coach
Imagine being able to ask a millionaire (in most cases they are) any question you want and get help when you need it. That is what you get with an affiliate marketing coaching program. For example, my online business coach offers live group coaching calls twice a week.
You can post your question a day or two before within the private group and if you cannot make the live coaching calls, they are archived so that you can watch the replays. Below is a screenshot of me on a coaching call with my mentor:

I take advantage of this access anytime I have a question or need guidance. My mentor offers the best advice from his own experience in the affiliate marketing industry. Having an online business coach is a game-changer.
Learn From Others in the Affiliate Marketing Mentorship Program
What is also great about the group coaching calls is that you get to learn from the other members of the training program. Some students may be ahead of you in terms of success. They often share what they are doing to get results. You can also learn from other’s mistakes or challenges.
Get Up and Running Fast
Most affiliate marketing coaching programs offer the ability to clone the same sales funnel that the online business coach is using to make sales. You can often clone using the same sales funnel software or depending on what the coaching program offers, your funnel may be built for you. This saves you a lot of time and trouble in setting things up yourself.
It’s Possible to Make Your First Sales Faster
A good mentorship program will teach you ways to make your first sales faster. There could be certain strategies to implement for traffic generation, conversion strategies, and more. These are things that you may not ever figure out on your own or could take you years to figure out. That is the true benefit of having a mentor for affiliate marketing.
Can I Learn Affiliate Marketing on My Own?
To reiterate, you absolutely can learn affiliate marketing on your own. However, your progress may be stunted by doing so. If you are going to learn affiliate marketing on your own, one of the best places to start is YouTube.
Some great content creators share tons of free information regarding affiliate marketing. Jonathan Montoya and Zach Crawford are two excellent YouTube channels to watch. I also like Brian Brewer’s channel and podcast.
The next best step is to take action on what you learn. If you want to set up a sales funnel, find a YouTube tutorial that explains how to do it. Try to avoid jumping from one method to the next before getting results.
That is called “shiny object syndrome” and it can hinder your progress significantly. I am guilty of jumping from one project to the next and not making any progress at all. It wasn’t until I focused on one method that I began to make steady affiliate commissions.
How to Choose the Best Affiliate Marketing Mentors
When it comes time to choose an affiliate marketing mentor, you want to make the best choice possible. Here are some things I recommend doing when you’re ready to invest in mentorship for affiliate marketing.
Decide How You Want to Promote Affiliate Products
There are a variety of ways that you can do affiliate marketing. From paid ads to blogging. While doing your research, you’ll come across different methods. Think about the methods that stand out to you most.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Blogging
- YouTube Channel
- Email Marketing
- Using a Sales Funnel
- Paid Ads
- CPA Marketing
I prefer using an affiliate sales funnel and a blog to send organic traffic to my funnel. Once you figure out a method that you like, it makes it easier to choose an online business coach who teaches the same method.
Is the Affiliate Marketing Mentor Accessible?
Some mentors do not post often on social media and some sell online courses for which they do not offer coaching calls. Be sure that the mentor you are interested in is posting often on the major social media platforms or YouTube.
Why is this important? It serves as proof that they are accessible should you reach out with a general question. A good mentor will reply to you themselves, and at a bare minimum, they’ll have an assistant reply.
Not only that, if you become an affiliate for your mentor’s product, your audience will also get to know, like, and trust their brand because they are active and accessible. Would you buy a course or coaching from someone who isn’t easily accessible? No? Neither will the people you refer them to.
Check the Mentor’s Reputation and Brand
There have been many times when I’ve researched an online business coach only to find horrible user reviews. I can understand a negative review here and there. However, when there are multiple, it raises a red flag for me.
Also, keep in mind that some reviews are fake – whether positive or negative. When you are sitting on the fence about an online mentor, reach out to them. There is often a support email that can be found on their website. Ask all of the questions that you want answers to.
A good online business mentor will reply. My online business coach replies to his emails. He even encourages his readers to hit reply and ask a question.
Do You Like the Mentor’s Product / Offers?
Finally, do you like what the mentor’s products or offers are? Do they include the information you need to succeed? Is there a minimum weekly live coaching call? The product should resonate with you. If an online business coach isn’t teaching information related to the niche that I’m in, I move on and keep researching other coaches.
How I Chose My Affiliate Marketing Coach
Choosing my online business coach was fairly simple for me. That is because I had been following my mentor for many years before I decided to learn high ticket affiliate marketing. When I decided to learn high-ticket affiliate marketing, my mentor was the first person to come to mind.
However, my online business coach checked all of the boxes I required before investing in a coach. My mentor fit the know, like, and trust factor.
My affiliate marketing mentor is:
- Successful (a 7-figure earner)
- Accessible
- Experienced (over a decade in the affiliate marketing space)
- Trustworthy (does what he says he’s going to do)
- Genuine
Even though I had been following my mentor before I invested in the coaching program, I still searched for student reviews and researched what the coaching program offered.
In Closing
While you do not need a mentor for affiliate marketing, it is something I recommend if you can afford to do it. I think there are so many benefits to having an affiliate marketing mentor. My overall experience has been a positive one.
There are many top mentors in the affiliate marketing space. At least one may resonate with you. I don’t shy away from investing in my education. If there is a course that teaches something I need to get better at, I’ll buy it. Same for coaching. What you learn can end up paying for itself when you can grow your income online.
